I’ve been a wee bit busy the past few months. Feannag the Crow will be flying in soon, tentatively in mid-March. I’m no stranger to writing young adult novels, short stories, and poetry, but it’s been quite an adventure writing my first children’s book. I’ve learned a great deal, which is always a good thing.

I’ve been blessed to meet two amazing women, Doreyl Ammons Cain and her sister Amy Ammons Garza. Doreyl is a brilliant illustrator/mural artist, and her sister Amy is a multi-talented layout and design artist and storyteller. Receiving Doreyl’s update emails containing her latest illustration has been a treasure. And now, after receiviing layout galleys of my book, I am delighted to watch little Feannag and his friends come to life. It’s a sort of birth experience for me to see my story come together with critters from my imagination who find their way to printed pages.

Feannag the Crow is the first in a series of two or three books I’m hoping to write to help young children learn socialization skills. This book is about Meeting New Friends.

In the spirit of Chinaberry Summer, I’ve included some of my favorite critters. (No spoilers!) I think both children and adults will enjoy reading about Feannag and his friends. Children will like the vivid, colorful illustrations. So will adults!

More journal entries will be coming soon, I promise.

My book will be available for sale at csabooks.com (Catch the Spirit of Appalachia). I will announce the release date as soon as I know it. There is still more possible editing to do on the proof copy when I receive it, but I hope there will be no more edits.

I will be scheduling book signings in the upcoming weeks. There will also be pre-ordering opportunities. You can check out muraltrail.com to find more information about Doreyl and the historical murals being installed in Appalachian towns to commemorate mountain history.

Meanwhile, we wait.
